Elevator pitch preparations

A major part of the conference is the elevator pitches of the contributors - short, 3 minute long presentations of the work intended to present the students' research work to the general public. Before the elevator pitches, an experienced team of 4 media representatives will work with the students in a workshop, helping them create a presentation that is at once both approachable, understandable and interesting, while at the same time remaining scientifically accurate.

The presentations will be not recorded by VideoLectures.

Call for papers

Students are invited to present their work in a form of abstract, poster and oral presentation written and presented in English. Short abstracts will be published in proceeding.

The abstract emphasis is on the application point of view of your research. Take a look at the paper guidelines below for detailed information.

Note that a submission consists of a manuscript only, so you have time to prepare the poster untill the conference.

Who is the conference for?

The conference is intended for all students of science, technology and engineering. Both students of the Jozef Stefan Postgraduate school and students from other institutions can submit their work. You do not need to be enrolled in a study programme at Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School (IPS/MPŠ) to participate and are kindly invited to participate with presentation of your research work at Jožef Stefan Institute. The conference is an excellent opportunity for you to see what is happening in different research fields and to meet other participants from IPS and Jožef Stefan Institute. Just don't hesitate and send us your contribution.

Guidelines

For the initial submission, you need only submit the extended abstract part of your presentation. You then have time until the conference to prepare a poster presenting your work. In preparing both your abstract and poster, please follow some guidelines outlined below.

NOTE: This year, you are expected to bring your posters (already printed) to the conference! We will not be printing the posters.
Abstract guidelines

The abstract should contain one (1) A4 page of scientific text. Please see the template with detailed instructions.

Poster guidelines

Please follow the instructions below closely:

  • Poster size is A1 (594 x 841 mm).
  • Author must put the following information on the poster: name, surname, school, programme, mentor, and author's picture.
  • All posters are required to conform to portrait orientation.
  • Posters should be clear and easy to read. Type size should be sufficiently large to allow people to read from 2 meters.
  • NOTE: Bring your printed posters to the presentations.
  • You are responsible for set-up and take down of your own poster.
  • Use bullets, and keep text to a minimum. Don’t crowd information onto the poster. Keep figures and tables simple.
  • An example poster is available here.

Submission details

The authors should submit their manuscripts in .doc file format by sending it to the ipssc@mps.si email address not later than February 12th, 2020. Submission should contain the manuscript and should be entitled as follows:

After the submission, the manuscripts are sent to the selected reviewers (from the research area), which correct and evaluate the contribution. NOTE that the best contributions participate in the competition for the best paper awards. A commission is formed to choose the winners of the annual conference. The winners receive a cash prize and a paper conformation. The winners are selected on the second day of conference. If you have any questions concerning the preparation of your paper/poster please contact us via e-mail.
